Initiatives

Our Community & Inclusion Initiatives

At Ability Therapy Place, our initiatives are designed to expand access, empower communities, and promote inclusive education and healthcare across Kenya. Through strategic partnerships, evidence-based programs, and trans-multidisciplinary collaboration, we work to ensure that children, families, and professionals receive the support, training, and opportunities they need to thrive. These initiatives strengthen systems, remove barriers, and build a more inclusive future for all.

Adapt initiative

Ability Therapy Place is the official partner for ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together) in Africa, bringing over 50 years of proven expertise in inclusive education and disability support to the continent. Founded in 1972 by Mithu Alur in India, ADAPT emerged from a mother’s struggle to find appropriate education for her daughter with cerebral palsy. ADAPT has grown into India’s leading organization supporting people with neuro-muscular and developmental disabilities, establishing societies across 16 states and creating the National Resource Centre for Inclusion. Their comprehensive model combines special education, vocational training, teacher preparation, therapy services, and family support under one roof.

Th rough this partnership, we adapt ADAPT’s time-tested methodologies to African contexts, offering evidence-based pr ograms and systematic approaches to inclusive education that have transformed thousands of lives, now tailored for Kenya’s unique cultural and educational landscape. Additionally, we work together, supporting members of Ability

Therapy Place to attend the Community Initiatives in Inclusion Training in India to better equip them to assist with inclusivity.

Higher Education Student Placement

Ability Therapy Place partners with institutions of higher learning including KMTC,The Presbyterian University of East Africa, Mt. Kenya University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, among others to offer meaningful, hands-on internship placements for students pursuing careers in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Orthotics, Prosthetics, Psychology, Nutrition, Nursing, and Medicine. We are committed to equipping the next generation of healthcare professionals with real-world experience, expert mentorship, and transmultidisciplinary collaboration that enhances both their academic journey and professional competence. At the core of our mission is a passionate belief that practical exposure is not just a supplement to classroom learning—it is a vital bridge to impactful, patient-centered care. Through our placements, students step into an environment that values innovation, compassion, and continuous learning, empowering them to become transformative changemakers in their respective fields.

Nyandarua County Government Partnership

Together with the county government, we seek to define what equity in education looks like on the ground, where no learner is left behind and inclusive policy is a reality to thousands of children around the country.

This strategic collaboration aims to build capacity among key stakeholders—educators, caregivers, community health workers, and policy influencers—through targeted training, advocacy forums, and coordinated action. Ability Therapy Place is partnering with the County Government of Nyandarua in a transformative policy-driven initiative

focused on inclusive education.

At the heart of this agreement is the establishment of an Inclusive Education Centre in Nyandarua County, envisioned as a national benchmark for inclusive learning environments. This center will not only provide direct support to children with diverse abilities but also serve as a training hub and policy model that other counties can replicate.

NCPWD Partnership

Through our partnership with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Ability Therapy Place has opened the doors to free, life-changing therapy for individuals registered with the council. Through this collaboration, both children and adults living with disabilities can now access essential physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and related interventions without any financial barriers.

This initiative goes beyond service delivery—it is a commitment to restoring dignity, improving daily functioning, and enhancing the overall quality of life for persons with disabilities. It reinforces their right to equitable, accessible healthcare and ensures they are not left behind due to economic constraints.

By working closely with NCPWD, we are strengthening the national safety net and demonstrating that inclusive rehabilitation services are not a luxury, but a fundamental necessity. Together, we are creating a future where every person, regardless of ability, has the support they need to thrive, participate fully in society, and reach their fullest potential.
